The
Washington County Health Department Food Specialist covers all food
service establishments in the county.
The Food Specialist can be contacted Monday through Friday between
the hours of
8:00 – 9:00 a.m.
at 812/883-5603, Extension 2003 or at times outside of this period by
leaving a message at that extension.
The
Food Specialist inspects all food service establishments including food
stores, caterers and mobile food service establishments.
The Food Specialist also provides consultations for remodeling and
new construction of food establishments.
In addition to other duties of the Food Specialist, investigations
of consumer complaints about food products and food poisoning are also
done.
The
Food Protection Section regularly inspects all food service establishments
in the county during the fair and various festivals.
All current and previous inspections are available for viewing at
the Health Department any time during regular business hours.

According to Indiana Law,
all animal bites are to be reported to the local Health Department.
If you are bitten by any animal, whether a pet, stray, or wild
animal, please report it by calling 812-883-5603, Extension 2003.
If a pet, the biting animal must be quarantined for 10 days and
checked for annual rabies vaccines. If
the animal has not had its annual rabies shot, the owner will be given 10
additional days to get it. Wild
animals or strays may be tested for rabies, if necessary.
